What to expect from overdentures with us
The name describes where the denture sits: over a few implants that act as anchors in the jaw. Attachments on the implants meet matching fittings inside the denture, so it locks into position with a press and lifts out when you want to clean it. The practice calls this treatment implant-supported overdentures and presents it as a middle path between a conventional denture and the stability of implants.
Daily life is where the difference shows. A denture held only by the gums can shift with a bite of an apple or a long conversation. An overdenture is held by the implants, which the practice says keeps it stable while eating and speaking and cuts down on the irritation a loose fit causes. It still asks for a routine: take it out to clean it, brush around the attachments, and keep regular checkups so the fit and the implants are looked at together.
Candidates are people missing several teeth or already wearing a denture, with enough jawbone to hold implants; where bone is thin, grafting can be discussed. The sequence runs consultation, implant placement, several months of healing while the implants fuse with the bone, then the custom overdenture. Nitrous oxide, oral sedation and IV sedation are available for the surgical step.
